John Gruen
Senior Vice President, Director of Advertising
John recently joined Ruder Finn after a multi-year freelance association where he helped win some major business for the firm. At Ruder Finn he currently develops strategy and writes for the Affymetrix account and the Novartis US Corporate reputation campaign. John has spent his entire career in advertising, becoming Creative Director and Senior VP at Ogilvy & Mather, BBDO and MVBMS/EuroRSCG all in New York. He has won major industry creative awards including Clio, One Show, Addy, EFFIE, London International, International Film & TV Festival, Andy, Art Directors Club, Starch Awards, John Caples Direct Response among others for print, TV, radio and direct response.
John has created campaigns for a wide range of national and international businesses in both the product and service spheres. These include GE, American Express, MCI, Intel, Gillette, Salomon Smith Barney, Ford, Time Warner, Glaxo Smith Kline, Kraft General Foods and Campbell's Soup. He and his work have been featured in the New York Times, US News & World Report, Success, the Village Voice and WCBS-TV.
John started his career in Account Management and is one of the few copywriters with an M.B.A in his portfolio, which he received at Columbia in marketing. He also has a B.A. in economics from Cornell. He is married with three children and lives in New York City.
