Peter Finn
CEO, Ruder Finn Inc.
Peter Finn, Co-CEO, has been a managing partner of Ruder Finn since 1987 and has been with the firm since 1976. Since 1987 he has been primarily responsible for the finances and day to day operations of the firm. During this time Ruder Finn has grown into one of the largest independently owned public relations firms in the world with 13 offices globally. Ruder Finn is the largest agency in the NY market, considered by many to be the PR capital of the world.
Under Finn’s direction the firm handles many blue chip clients. The practice areas in which he has been most involved include technology, consumer marketing, environmental issues and the arts.
Finn is a strong believer in the philosophy that as an independent agency Ruder Finn has the luxury of taking the long term view and should invest in the firm’s staff and in client relationships, even during economically tough times. The firm is able to place a higher priority on investing in these areas than in producing the short term returns required by the holding company agencies.
One of Finn's strengths is in the area of creating teams across specialties and offices through consensus building. Finn's unique ability to attract and manage some of the top public relations talents in the industry is well known in the public relations world. Working with the firm's top managers, he ensures that Ruder Finn's resources are brought to bear in servicing the firm’s clients in the very best way possible.
Finn is also founder and Chairman of the Catskill Mountain Foundation, a leader in the area of arts based economic development as well as in the area of sustainable/green living. Through his work in the area of the economic impact of the arts he and Ruder Finn have come to work with many public officials at the local, state and federal level. Through his work in the arts Finn has worked with and supported many NYC arts groups including the National Dance Institute, the Joyce Theater, the NY Philharmonic, the Orchard Project theater development consortium, the Pearl Theater, BAM, and many others.
Finn has been a member of the Public Relations Society of America for almost two decades. He served on the Government Affairs Committee of PRSA and on the PRSA Major Agency Management Advisory Task Force.
Finn has been involved in multiple PRSA "Silver Anvil awards, PR Week awards, and Sabre awards programs.
Finn has a B.A. from Brown University and an M.A. from Columbia University.
