Bookmark and Share November 10, 2009

Ruder Finn New York, working on behalf of Novartis Oncology, has launched a new patient education campaign with the announcement that basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). By beginning a public dialogue, Abdul-Jabbar hopes to raise awareness about the disease and encourage fellow patients to work with their doctors for the best possible outcomes. A series of high profile one-on-one embargoed interviews were conducted at the RF offices on November 9, including reporters from the Associated Press, The New York Times, People, CNN, Los Angeles Times and “Good Morning America.”

Today, we’ve seen a significant volume of press coverage of the announcement. The story is also buzzing across social networks as a “top trend” on Twitter and with the launch of a new Facebook fan page. Abdul-Jabbar is also encouraging others to visit CMLAlliance and CML Earth, Ruder Finn and Novartis's groundbreaking online network connecting the CML community where he is now a featured member
