Ruder Finn’s paid Executive Training Program is for recent college graduates who are interested in beginning a career in public relations. It is well-known throughout the public relations industry.
The Program is offered three times per year in our New York City headquarters. Executive Trainees are selected on talent, creativity, and passion, and are not required to have prior experience in the field. Executive Trainees work full-time, attend weekly classes and participate in other educational and social activities. The agency hires many of the program’s best graduates to fill Assistant Account Executive positions.
Executive Trainees are assigned to one of our core groups or practice areas: Corporate Communications, Healthcare, RF Radius and RFI Studios. As an integral team member, Executive Trainees will work full-time during the four-month program while building a foundation for a career in public relations.
The Healthcare practice is the agency’s largest worldwide practice. Offering US and global clients some of the industry’s most innovative and award-winning communications programs, Healthcare supports numerous clients including pharmaceutical, managed care, professional societies and disease awareness groups. This practice area helps clients define and achieve business goals with product and corporate-based services. The Healthcare Innovations team has also made great strides integrating digital initiatives into Healthcare campaigns and has successfully launched first-in-kind initiatives with Storify, Tumblr, gaming, blogger summits and other social media outlets.CLOSE
The Corporate Communications practice focuses on building and strengthening the corporate reputations of multinationals spanning healthcare, technology, luxury, non-profit, consumer and professional services industries. Specializing in corporate reputation, media relations, CEO thought leadership and brand awareness, the Corporate Communications group shapes public perception via strategic storytelling across external channels. In addition to external communications, the Corporate Communications practice has deep expertise in developing and executing employee engagement campaigns on behalf of clients. RF Radius is as an integrated marketing and strategic communications practice that marries Ruder Finn’s award-winning communications heritage and digital capabilities with strategy consulting and organizational transformation. The practice aims to address an existing gap within leading companies and C-suite executives in terms of integrated and holistic approaches to solving business challenges through communications. The group’s collective talent base includes agency and in-house experience across a wide range of sectors including financial, technology, consumer, and healthcare, and disciplines including brand strategy and storytelling, change management, employee engagement and culture-building, corporate reputation, digital media, management consulting and more.CLOSE
The Global Strategy & Issues Group is comprised of individuals who work with global multinational corporations, foreign governments and non-governmental institutions to build, manage and protect reputations for positive business outcomes. The team has deep issues and crisis management experience, ranging from product recalls, quality issues, class action lawsuits and other litigation as well as counterfeiting, regulatory challenges, environmental safety, management and employee-related crises and activism. In addition, they have trained many of our clients to prepare for issues and crises through simulated crisis workshops, both in a war room-type setting as well as online, using social media tools to test response under pressure.CLOSE

Executive Trainee applicants must have graduated from college at the time the session for which they are applying begins. Candidates with graduate degrees are eligible to apply, but a graduate degree is not a requirement.

You will need to submit a cover letter stating your top three practice groups in order of preference, your resume and writing assignment.
How do I attach my documents to my application?
In the online application, under resume attachment, you are able to attach your resume and up to six additional attachments which can be uploaded in any of the following formats: DOC, DOCX, RTF, PDF, TXT, HTML.
How should letters of recommendations be submitted?

Does Ruder Finn assist with housing or living arrangements?
We do not provide living quarters, but can suggest resources to help Executive Trainees find housing and/or roommates.

Each practice area has its own unique personality. While strong verbal and written communications skills are essential to one’s success, it is equally important to have the right personality and culture fit. We also select college graduates who have degrees in a broad range of majors, as individuals who bring their own background and experience usually thrive in our environment.
